Practice Papers vs Revision: How to Balance Both

They solve different problems

Revision helps you build or refresh knowledge and methods. Practice papers test whether you can retrieve and apply them under question and time constraints. One cannot completely replace the other.

Use weak results diagnostically

If a paper reveals that you do not understand several topics, doing another full paper immediately may repeat the same problem. Pause to revise and practise those areas first.

Use targeted questions between papers

Topic-based questions let you work on a weakness efficiently. Once the method becomes more reliable, mixed questions and full papers test whether you can recognise when to use it.

Increase exam-like practice over time

Earlier preparation can contain more learning and targeted practice. As the exam approaches and coverage improves, timed mixed practice can take a larger role.

Review every paper

A paper without review is incomplete practice. Analyse wrong, guessed and slow answers, then turn them into specific revision tasks.

Avoid chasing paper counts

Completing ten papers poorly is not automatically better than completing five with careful review and follow-up. Measure improvement in understanding, accuracy and pacing rather than only the number completed.
